A Son’s Love

A man, who in his life and by nature of his chosen vocation, had buried many souls, including his parents and brothers, stood alongside the woman he loved.

She had lost a son of 47 years and her pain was great. He felt her pain, little realizing that the day would come when he would be chosen to feel the real pain of her loss when his own son of some fifty years died of cancer.

It was only then, he understood the pain the woman he loved was experiencing.

Ernest K Gann, aviator extrodinaire, movie maker, prolific author, wrote, on hearing of his son’s death, “That day, I knew how the God of Israel felt” (when His Son Jesus cried out to him “……..why have you forsaken me” – my addition.)

Months later the man came across a e-mail, sent to him on Father’s Day, by his son and his reply:

“My Beloved Father, Best Friend and Spiritual Mentor,

Happy Father’s Day.

You may have regrets, possibly deep sorrow that my life, under your leadership (my father) could have been guided and inspired, disciplined where necessary toward a more meaningful vocation, a lifestyle of choices that may have proved more fruitful, a blessing to our family and the world.

Yet with legitimate regrets, my life journey has been one fraught with many trials, the consequence of deep inner struggles that proved too vulnerable to many bad decisions that has cost you, Mom, my siblings and the precious wife and children God blessed me with, in no small way a burden to most.

Yet, when I survey my life through the lens of Calvary I am confronted with this immutable truth, Christ has from before my conception orchestrated the elements of my journey in such a way that I would desperately need His atoning power much more and in greater measure than most.

In this place Daddy, I have come to know and love His Father in ways and dimensions that few, very, very few would ever come to know Him.

Because of this, I not only thank Him for His gift of healing and deliverance I actually find myself grateful for the circumstances that have led up to this great revelation.

Yet this one irrevocable fact stands head & shoulders above all things…..I am fruit of your Spiritual loins, I OWE my life in Yehashua to your faithfulness in Christ and for this I am so dearly indebted to you…. you failed, if you in actual fact did fail me, you failed me forward into the Arms of our loving Savior. Amen.”

The words you write My Son, are not only written with Godly anointing, but they are the fruit of pure silver that comes from the massive heat of the smith’s furnace.

It is only with Our Father’s grace that we have journeyed thus far, much of the time apart from one another, some precious moments, together, but always one in His Spirit.

We have cried together in the pain of loss and suffering, in the loneliness of deep regret, but always we have believed, together, that our Father would embrace our trembling souls and bring peace to our weary hearts.

I have come to understand, in my life, that there is no right or wrong, no good or bad, no success or failure, there is just us and our Daddy, the only one true and high God, whose eyes never cease to look upon us as HIS SONS, sons that He loves to gaze upon in shear wonderment of His most perfect creation.

Love and Shalom

Your Daddy. xxxxxxxx

Destiny

My Destiny Journey

Do I believe in ‘Destiny”?

Yes, I do believe in destiny. But probably not in the way that you imagine I do.

Bear with me whilst I choose a little spiritual reference at this point:

Appreciating, as I do, that all of us have differing spiritual viewpoints, my opinion is that; I have my understanding of God, but I respect all other people’s point of view on who they understand their God to be.

Live Now…

“Forget the former things;

do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland.”

Is. 43:18-19

 “So, don’t worry about tomorrow,

for tomorrow will bring its own worries.

Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Matt. 6.34.

All time is an illusion. Today becomes tomorrow. Tomorrow becomes today. So, it has been since the creation of the universe.

Reality is, that all time is always now and now is all we have, not yesterday, not tomorrow.

If I allow myself to drift into thinking backward, there is a good chance I will create a sense of shame or guilt in myself.

If I think forward, then I have potential to feel fearful, anxious.

The safe place is always now. Because in this moment called now, I am equipped to deal with issues of shame, guilt, fear and anxiety, which, had the truth be known, are all illusionary emotions anyway.

In this safe place, I am equipped with weapons to deal with my true enemy – my ‘self’.

My self uses thoughts as weapons. Thoughts of shame, guilt, fear and anxiety.

The first reaction I have had, when I awake from a nightmare, is a great sense of relief. Relief, that I was only in a dream state and the lion about to attack me was only illusionary. For a while, I sit still, sweating, with heart beating, trying to recover from how real the illusion was.

Every day, in each moment, triggers bring back past shame and guilt – bring fear and anxiety for tomorrow.

Religion teaches that in such moments, I should cry out to God. Why?

Why cry out, when the Spirit of the living God resides, full time, within me; keeping me safe, advising me with wise counsel, loving me?

In all His thirty-three years, Jesus never cried out to His Father for help – he simply used the mighty power of His Father’s Spirit within Him to accomplish!

With one exception; on the cross of his crucifixion he cried out to God,

Eloi, Eloi, lama, sabacthani?” ‘Daddy, where are you, I feel so alone’ (My translation.)

In dying, the Spirit of His Father had to leave Him.

The Spirit of the living God is within you now, so live with it in this moment called now.

How Deep is Your Well?

How lovely it would be to have our own personal drinking Well? The water at the bottom of a natural source is beautiful. Cool, clear and full of nutritious minerals – untainted by the outside world. Drinking water from a Well such as this would certainly have health benefits for us, I’m sure you’ll agree?

The challenge is getting to the water if there was no outlet. The sides of the Well would most likely be very steep and the deeper one goes, the darker it would get. Quite a scary experience!

The water near the surface may be good, but it would not be of the same standard as the water at the bottom of the well. As the water nears the surface, it can become affected by other contaminates, agricultural chemicals, city waste and other not so healthy additives….

…and so is our relationship with the Lord.

He says to us:
“Come and drink of My Well. The sustenance you will receive, will be pure and life giving. The Well, which I offer you, becomes richer the deeper you go with Me. The Water of Life is so nourishing that not only will it revitalise you, but as you pass it on, it will give life to others”, says the Lord.

“Be washed by the Waters of My word. My Word will make you clean. A cleanliness such like you have never experienced before. Day by day, the waves of my living water will wash over you. Tier upon tier, strength upon strength, My Water will change you. The process of sanctification is not pleasant in the natural, but as I gaze upon you – I see My finished work, complete in Me. Yes – My work in you is complete”, says the Lord. “I see no more sin in you, I see no more heartache or pain in you, I see no more sickness, but as I look at you My child, I see peace, Joy and blessing. Blessing to Me and blessing to those around you”, says the Lord.

“I have placed a desire in your heart to seek Me. A desire that wants you to be more like Me. Do not be afraid of this desire”, says the Lord“. Allow Me to have My way with you. Do not be concerned with those around you who try to pull you away from Me. As you drink of My Well, all those fears will melt away. Take courage and seek the deeper part of My Well. As you go deeper in Me, do not fear that things appear cold and dark. Do not fear that you cannot see clearly with your spiritual eyes, but allow Me to guide you. Trust in Me. I have commanded My angels concerning you”, says the Lord. “I will guard you”.

“There are many around you who drink from the water near the surface”, says the Lord. “You can tell them by their fruit. The water is Water 3tainted and not able to give them the full needs of My relationship with them. They hear with their ears but do not listen. They have eyes but they do not see. They have hearts but only understand what THEY want to understand. All this because they drink from a tainted Well”, says the Lord.

“The more you drink from the deep waters of My Well, the more you will desire Me. My living Well will give you new sight. A sight with which you will see Me as you never have seen Me before. A sight with which you will see My Spirit in you. A new sight with which you will see your sinful nature. Do not fear when you see your sinful nature”, says the Lord, “but trust ME. At that time, trust Me. Do not turn away because of fear and seek the water at the top of the Well – that water will only comfort your flesh, My child.”

“Your reward for trusting and following Me will far outweigh anything this world can offer you. All that you see now will pass away, but that which you drink from My Well, will last forever…”, says the Lord your God.

Our Father is waiting on us to ask Him to take us to the deep part of His Well. Try Him. He is seeking those who want to go to the deeper places with Him. There is a worldly saying which says…”You’ve tried the rest – now try the best…”

Go ahead and ask Him now, right in the midst of your current burden. The darker things seem to get, the more brightly His light will shine in your heart – the deeper the place we drink from, the greater the peace and Joy.

How deep is your Well?

Mission Malawi – Chapter Twenty One

15.03.96
Well, this is the day that the Lord has made – we will rejoice and be glad in it!! Just a few minutes to share again before the work of the day begins and thoughts are consumed and lost forever.

I finally had a reply from the elders of one of the large denominational churches who had volunteered four mature believers to assist in the outreach. I was truly blessed by that until this morning when they came and withdrew their support on “denominational” grounds. I told them what a terrible disappointment this is for God and that the Devil has now succeeded in dividing a combined attempt to reach the lost.

By Gods grace we are now alone on this little mission. In our weakness He is strong – our hearts are willing and pure for Gods purpose.

Again, anger and disappointment sear through my heart. Please change me Lord. I have a deep peace about what is happening, a peace which can only come from you.

20.03.96
Hallelujah!! – the outreach went ahead. We showed the ‘Jesus Film’ in Chechewa, set up in the middle of the local market on a cool African evening. We couldn’t count how many people came but we estimate around 250. After the film our team began their long awaited turn to preach. Generally, they were warmly received and counselling commenced.evangelism

During the preaching however, a homeless man approached one of our team and stood right in front of him. He moved very close to his face and became very agitated. As our brother tried to preach, the homeless man began to dance and gyrate so as to block him from seeing and talking to the people. Others in our team saw this and ran over to the scene and immediately began praying…recognizing a demonic presence. “Lord we submit to you…by Your power and might clear this stronghold please in Jesus name”. The man sat down on the ground, perfectly still and quiet!

Afterwards each member of our little team were surrounded by a group of people asking questions.

Two home cell groups have been arranged for those who wanted to hear more (including the homeless man!!). Others were sent to local Churches of their choice to attend Sunday services and to gain further teaching and discipling.

Attempts to find accommodation for Andy and Sue have been fraught with misleading and dishonesty at every turn. Housing officials and private people alike. We can’t afford to pay the new rental in the house that they are staying in and so now we are in the Lords hands.

We have just found out that the scooter which was given to us has no spare parts. Amazing that the agents have been misleading us for two months. This means that now Andy and Sue will not have transport when we go to Zim.

Our funds are also extremely limited now as we have had to take funds out of the business for everybody’s needs. How often Lord, will I find myself in this situation? I don’t want to run away from these works that you are doing in me to help me learn to trust you more. I thank you for the grace which you have already poured out on me.

Other ministry work appears to be coming along well. Theresa-Anne teaches English at a local denominational church and this obviously provides much area for sharing with the children. Andy is leading two house groups a week, which he is very blessed about (particularly when he has to walk and ride through tropical thunderstorms to get there!).Teaching

Two of our young men teach “R.I.” (Religious instruction) at the local government school and it’s a joy to see how the little children are responding to the gospel.

We lead two other house groups per week within the area, which deal mainly with marital and other “domestic” challenges. We have prayed much since we came that the Lord would pour out His Spirit over this area, and we are really seeing answers, which is encouraging for those whom we are discipling.

The group we conduct at Customs and Excise is perhaps the most encouraging for us. The Lord has really touched the hearts of these men and women and changes in their lives are reported each week. No doubt the department is seeing the benefit as well!

Kathy and Sue attend an “inter-denominational” Ladies Bible study group where they have some lovely fellowship with the “missionary community”. Today, the group was praying for peace around the world. Kathy and Sue were led to share with the ladies that sometimes the Lord uses war, destruction and famine to turn lost souls to Him and that we should always for HIS will to be done.

I was asked to assist at one of the Home cell groups of a large denominational church, which is proving a real ‘bumpy ride’, as this is a group of real intellectual Ex-Pats from America and England (Help Lord!!). The gospel is simple and experiential, very different to theology, which can sometimes cause barriers when trying to receive the true gospel.

28.03.96
We have been able to successfully register a church (in order to allow us to stay legally in the country – not for the purpose of starting another denomination!!). This process normally takes three years so we can really see Gods hand on this situation and we therefore believe that the Lord may want us here for a while longer.

Kathy and the children are all well. Theresa-Anne has been registered to write her GCSE Cambridge Mathematics and English exams in May and June. The Lord has miraculously opened doors for this to come about and we are very grateful for all the precious people who are helping us here. Please pray for her.

Kathy has begun Simons reading and writing program and they are both enjoying it very much in their little school room out back. Bethany is a bit left out, but Sue is doing a sterling job of keeping her ‘pre-schooled’ for a few hours each day. Daniel (wow, how many more!!) keeps Nanna (my mother) on the hop during school hours.

Wayne is always a great help to us and has become a very practical/mechanical young man. Who would have thought that he would be such a blessing to us from such a young age – bless him as he grows Father. I am so proud of him as I see how he goes about daily chores – busying himself with something, keen to be involved. God has placed deep insight and great sensitivity into this young man and because of that, God will use him always in quiet but effective ways. He has so much to offer others and will give freely as God directs.

Andy and Sue have recovered from all their ‘tropical’ sicknesses and are now well on the way to becoming fully blown African missionaries, having survived many shattered illusions. They are such a great help to us and a real asset to the mission here.

I can’t help but marvel at the Lords power when I think of Andy and Sue. From the day they arrived here to this day, there have been such wonderful changes in their lives as individuals and in their marriage. Many ‘grey’ areas have been cleared up for them and there is a true freedom in their relationship with each other.

Andy, who was on medication for a form of epilepsy, has now been completely healed and no longer takes medication daily (or at all). He does a full normal days’ work including driving, which he was not able to do before. Thank you Jesus for your healing!

Andy shared with me how, with the help of the Lord, he has been able to truly comprehend that his ‘old self’ (the one which suffered these terrible attacks), did in fact, die with Jesus on the cross around 2000 years ago. As he became aware of past hurts and angers in his life, he was able to deal with them. They began to lessen, and so the healing became more and more evident in his life. The past hurts and unforgiveness were an area in his life where the evil one had dominion. This therefore became a stronghold in his life. As he shed these feelings, the light became stronger and stronger, resulting in a physical strengthening.

A Privilege to be Used

Have you ever wondered why it is that we find ourselves in the daily situations and circumstances that we do?

There are a number of answers to that question but one answer is that we are used by God as vessels to bring salvation to others as well as presenting situations before Him. What an exciting thought – to be used by the almighty Father! Is it possible the Lord would need to use us as ‘agents’ here on earth? Well, yes it is!

God is a Timeless Tale

“What is the purpose of my life on this earth?” – People have asked this question, more than any other in the history of humankind

Belief in God is that purpose and God is a timeless tale.

Belief in God?

Who is God and why do I need to know who God is?

Good questions – always deserving of an honest and unbiased answer. These are questions that would invite, maybe, thousands of different answers.

Why not start here: God, to you, is whom you personally perceive God to be, surely?

You could make a definitive statement, say, like some do, “God is the creator (and resulting ruler) of the universe and this statement would be supported by what is written in the Bible.

Then again, what is the Bible and how can it claim authority to make the above statement?

What is the ‘Bible”?

Bible believers will profess that what we see in the bound books of today, bearing the title ‘The Bible’ and consisting of sixty six (or if you are a Roman Catholic, Seventy two) books bound into one, and that these are the breathed word of God, and therefore give authority to this statement of who God is.

To add to this statement, there is another claim that the Bible makes:  “God is one God”, meaning that there is no other God but Him. (His gender is also confirmed in the Bible).

Such statements are the basis of Bible believing theology of Christians.

Is Christianity the only true religion?

This theology invites the question, “What about all the many other religions, outside of Bible believers, many which are much older than modern Christianity, in our world today”?

Is the God of the Christians the only God and all other religions are false?

The quick answer to this is: NO religion holds the keys to God’s Kingdom, here on earth or in the eternal realm, save God Himself.

These are very important questions to all of us fellow travellers, in the world today. They are questions that deserve honest factual answers.

Let us not be deluded, the answerers to these questions have been responsible for more wars, deaths and crusading campaigns than any other activity on the surface of the earth. This means, that there is no painless solution to answering these questions.

Let us return to the earlier statement, “God, to you, is whom you personally perceive God to be, surely”?

This discussion begun with two questions:

Who is God?

Why do I need to know who God is?

  1. Who is God?
  2. Why do I need to know who God is?

For the moment let the statement, “God is to you whom you personally perceive God to be.” be acceptable and let us move on to the second question.

Why do I need to know who God is?

To answer this question, let us deal with a few facts to begin with:

  1. We ALL have a limited lifespan on this earth. Dependent on where you live on this planet, that could range from 50 years to 80 years on average.
  2. When this lifespan ends, we die and our bodies will decompose or burned to ash, dependent on our choice of burial procedure.
  3. However, there is no scientific evidence that our souls and spirits, which during our lifetime were composite with our bodies, will face the same fate.

What happens to me after I die?

With the above indisputable facts in mind, we should, at the very least, give consideration to the question – “So, what happens after I die”?

If your answer is, “When I die that’s the end and there is nothing more”. Then it does lessen the importance of the questions, whom God is and why you need to know God.

However, If you respond, “I honestly don’t know and would be interested to find out”.

If you see no future after the death of your body, then surely you would have no need of God, whomever He might be.

Then let’s take a look at the resulting option for you in this case.

If you see no future after death of your body, then you surely would have no

The Soul consists of our intellect, emotion and will. The spirit is like an internet connection to the ethereal world

need of God, whoever God might be. So, you can just jump off the religions roundabout and relax.

If on the other hand, you believe, or even vaguely suspect, that your soul and spirit will live beyond the grave, you have a few other options.

In order for all of us being ‘on the same page’, let me give you my definition of soul and spirit.

The human soul is that part of us that consists of intellect, emotion and will.

The human spirit is a communication channel to and from the ethereal world.

Now, don’t get too fazed if you do not agree with this definition, just accept that it is a fairly good basis to continue with for now.

If you are happy then; that the soul and spirit continue into another phase of existence, you will logically decide that the next existence must have a structure of sorts.

Again, logic would suggest that if there is a structure, there will also be a management system for that structure.

What type of structure and what type of management system is ahead of you is not relevant for now. What is of greater importance is; how will you fit into this structure and management system?

If my Soul and spirit do not die with my body – what happens to them?

Like all structures and their management systems there may be rules and regulations. Possibly not the kind of rules and regulations that we are accustomed to, like, “do and do not” but more of the order of, “if you do so and so, the result will be….or if you do not do so and so the result will be….” Much like, if you forget to put fuel in your car’s petrol tank, your engine stops running; in other words, cause and effect type rules.

To recap then; if you believe or only think, that your soul and spirit live on after the body dies and that they will move into a different existence, the question arises; where can you find immigration requirements to move into this new existence? Your best choice here, if possible, is to talk to someone of authority in the immigration department.

Now this is where the matter of God enters your space.

By the way, Instead of using the name God, we could use, president, department head, CEO, whatever we like really, as long as we get the right information regarding our immigration requirements, to enter the new existence. By the way, I refer to God as ‘Him’, but it could just as easily be ‘Her’, whatever you choose. The reality is that; God is asexual, because of being Spirit and not human.

Assuming that you have decided that there is the possibility of life for the soul and spirit after bodily death, the possibility that your soul and spirit will pass into a new way of life which will be different from life here on earth. Assuming there will be a need for you to conform to the requirements needed to enter the new existence and live this new life; then you will have to take a hard look at all the various religions in the world and choose one which will offer you the immigration requirements you need.

Once you have decided which route you will take; work at it with all you worth and be happy.

Never forget this important statement:

It is not a matter of which religion is wrong or which one is right – the important thing is; will it work for you? If it works for you – good. Do not fall into the most common religious trap of believing that your religion is the only true religion; rather respect all your fellow travellers on the road of life, even if you cannot accept their religious beliefs.

There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ religion. There is only you and God.

Wallace Wattles, circa 1880-1914, said, “Nothing is right, nothing is wrong, nothing is good, nothing is bad. All is as it should be and all is well with the world.”

My definition of religion is: ‘the study about God, without God’. One does not need to know about God, one simply needs to know God.

Now, let us say that you do believe, or even suspect that the soul and spirit will live on after the body dies. Then, what I would like is for us to travel through the following chapters on a ‘What if…’ basis. In other words, be completely open minded on what you read.

If you don’t agree with what you read as you go along, bear with it and persevere, otherwise ‘shut’ the e-book and carry on as you are.

Should you find that you are happy with what you read, then, very definitely carry on, because, in the end you will either get your answer to the above questions or you will be, at the very least, one opinion wiser.

Should you find that you are having some difficulty with understanding what you are reading and need to ask a few questions, then jot your questions down on a piece of paper and continue reading. In all probability, you will find that your questions will be self-answering as you read along.

If this does not happen, by all means, return to the website that gave you this e-book and post your questions on the blog site.

All set? Let’s go to the first chapter…….

How do I hear God

“One thing I’ve learned about relationships is that I tend to become more like the people I spend the most time with”.
Motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people with whom we spend the most time.

Considering the above statement by a person who is  generally promoting personal experience and scientific information, we need to accept that if we spend a lot of time with God, we will become like Him and be able to live a life of health, wealth, peace and power on this earth even as did Jesus

The Business of God’s Love – Part One

In line with the desire to make our walk with the Lord more practical, let’s look at the second most important commandment…..Love your neighbour as yourself. Most of us have heard these words many times, but have we really understood what Jesus meant? In order to appreciate His command, we need to see how it is that God intended us to love others.

Mission Malawi – Chapter Eight

Mission Malawi – Chapter Eight

Customs in all cultures can bind people and often allow for the word of God to be compromised at one point or another. “This is a hard saying…” and can only be revealed by the Spirit of God Himself. We tend not to receive such words because of trying to hold on to our ‘old ways’. God needs to be seriously sought for confirmation of these deep sayings. On many occasions we saw the Word of God take back seat because customary ceremonies were being fulfilled. Christians were attending these ceremonies not for any other reason than fear of what others would say or do if they did not attend.
A normal Sunday service in a large denominational church was cancelled and visiting missionaries from another country were turned away because a funeral service was being held in the community that day. It is sad that the church should bow to the rules of men.
Generations of witchcraft have allowed dark spirits to invade the church. Those who say they are ‘born again’ believe they are on the way to the Kingdom of God. Jesus said unless you are born of water and of the spirit, you will not enter the Kingdom. This is more than just being born again. Those who are born again only receive ‘sight’ of the Kingdom (awareness of God, the sinful nature and the Devil), not entry to the Kingdom. What we saw was that those who were not totally born of water and of the spirit, brought traditionalism into the church.
Singing and worshipping was very much along traditional lines, only the words having been changed to make them ‘Christian’. Darkness was still present, deep in the hearts of those attending. A person can only truly worship God in the spirit, by the power of God’s Spirit.
We found very little worshipping in spirit, all was done by man’s will and power. Certain (scriptural) phrases and lines were used over and over again at nauseum, to stir the congregation into a frenzy of yodeling, screaming and chanting sheep, using the same format, week in and week out. Few had their hearts and minds on God, but were thinking of other things. Meanwhile those leading the service were enjoying the feeling of power which they held as they manipulated and ‘amused’ the congregation with their ‘antics’ while preaching.
“….One day as Titus and I labored in the garden, he began to share some interesting thoughts and observations with me. He said that he had noticed that most white people were able to look after material things better than the average Malawian. He said that generally, whites were able to manage businesses better as well as other situations and he wondered why it was like that. I marveled at this statement and knew it could only come from one who had been truly born again. It was not said with malice or mockery, neither from a racial point of view.
We began to share much about our races, European and Traditional African – the fact that we were both ‘Africans’ having been born and bred on the continent. Was it in fact possible for the two races to hurdle the culture barrier and live successfully under one roof and what was the answer to his question?

Needless to say our time in the garden was much longer than we had planned. We shared about the curse of Ham in the book of Genesis which spoke of Ham’s descendants being ‘servants of servants’ and the fact that this led to the African continent being born into ancestral worship. “Does this mean all traditional Africans are cursed?” he asked me. I said, “…if you think about it – we are all cursed until we turn to our Lord to be saved!”
I explained that Jesus came to the earth to restore back to us everything that was lost originally in the Garden of Eden. Therefore it doesn’t matter which culture, color, race or country we come from, we all have the same opportunity to know the Lord and be released from our past – whatever that is.
Generally speaking, this would account for the observations Titus had made – some people appeared better adapted to certain functions and other people to other functions. However, this finding in no way entitles one to be superior over the other. God intended all to be equal and He is the judge of men’s hearts, irrespective of which race they come from. The teachings of the New Testament in the Bible continually warn that there must never be discrimination.
So, as for our discussion, we talked on as the African sun got hotter and hotter. “Even your skin is better suited for indoors”, quipped Titus.
The Lord showed us that the only way for two races to live together in ‘harmony’ would be through Christ Jesus. Men have been trying for centuries to create peace and harmony with little success.
In African counties where the war for freedom has been won after many years of struggle and senseless loss of life, there is now a, “shoe is on the other foot” attitude. This type of attitude may rarely been seen in the open and even less rarely admitted, but it nevertheless is present.
It is this way because the heart of man holds onto unforgiveness and cannot be changed by systems of men. It requires deep change from the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ gave each human being a new heart, one that truly desires to do the things of God, not just talk about them.
If we, as humans can come away from our reliance on culture, we are then in a true position to ‘love our neighbor’. Not with a sloppy kind of human love, but the real love that Christ has for us. A love that cares whether or not somebody gets to the kingdom of God. For that purpose, we should be prepared to lay our lives down. Are we really in a position to do this now?
God has done much in our hearts while we have been here, in order that we live the way we do. It hasn’t been easy and there is still much to be done in all our hearts, but now we begin to see that through Jesus, it is definitely possible to live and work together in real peace….”
As human beings, we have a great need to be ‘entertained’. The world would term this ‘escapism’ – to take our mind off the things which burden us. Sadly, this has inadvertently crept into the church today as many dote on the ‘performing’ pastor. Congregations grow in the belief that the word of God is attracting many, but instead the sinister undertone of the flesh is ever increasing. People are drawn in by acting, instead of being pierced by the truth of the Word.

If we find ourselves saying, “What a wonderful personality, what a fascinating person, He has such insight!” then what opportunity has the gospel got through all that? It cannot get through because the attraction is to the messenger and not the message. If a person is attracting others through his personality, that is his appeal. If his life is totally laid down for the Lord, then the appeal becomes what Christ Jesus can do. The danger is to glory in men, but Jesus said that we should serve Him with all our heart and that He only, should be lifted up.
“….The Pastor that worked together with us for eight months, side by side, sharing good and bad times together, we later discovered had reported us for “abusing human rights”.
It turned out that he was disgruntled about not receiving, what he felt, was a fair wage out of the small food business. His true heart was revealed when his brother disappeared with one of our bicycles (in “lieu” of wages). His heart was more intent on gaining worldly things, than the things of God. We are never in a position to judge others. That is the sovereign work of God. The Lord showed us that people’s actions stem out of a trust, or lack of trust in God, something we all suffer from.
In this particular case, the ‘Pastor’ simply could not fully believe that God would supply all the needs of his family and consequently tried to do everything in his own power, becoming afraid when he could not see things ‘coming together’ as he felt they should. However, this was a man who was teaching and preaching the word of God, many times sharing things which were not testimony in his own life. The object of sharing this example is not to judge or ridicule this ‘Pastor’, but to expose the truth of the situation as it currently is…”
It is not the intention of this article to criticize precious brethren in Malawi or anywhere else in the world. God brings us to places, among people, and into certain situations to accomplish His definite purpose through the spirit in us. Our part is to use intercessory prayer in everyday circumstances and to bring people God puts around us, by His grace, before His throne.
“….After own little food business was closed, due to ‘red tape’ formalities, we became a little concerned ourselves. We prayed and God has used faithful and obedient brethren to support us. We firmly believe in working with our hands as Paul did, so that God can bless us with our needs, but now for the first time we are “solo” as it were, still working with our hands each day, but not in a ‘money earning’ job, so to speak. It is now living by trusting in the Lord, for the first time….”
On September 26th 1994, in answer to a word which was given to us while we were still in South Africa in 1993, our faithful brother Jacob Arthur came to join us. What a great blessing to have him with us, we are so grateful to the Lord for allowing him to come and help us; it’s been nearly six months without ‘likeminded’ fellowship.
The Lord has blessed us once again and we have been able to have electricity connected to our home. We realized just how much we had taken for granted the electricity in our houses back in South Africa. To be able to have electricity at the touch of a switch and running water in the house at the turn of a tap….surely a great blessing.
