From the day of The Garden of Eden, the Spirit of God dwelt in Adam and Eve. “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”
We all know the story of the banishing of Adam and Eve from the garden and the reason for them being banished. Let us take a look at the affects of Gods Banishing order:
He said to the woman: “I will intensify your labour pains; you will bear children with painful effort, yet your desire will be for your husband…”
He said to the Man: “You will eat bread by the sweat of your brow until you return to the ground, since you were taken from it. For you are dust, and you will return to dust.”
“And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of Us, to know good and evil.”
In essence then, Adam and Eve were no longer spirits and became humans; all because they rejected God’s advice and opted for that of the serpent. They swopped the tree of life for the tree of knowing good and evil.
What did this mean?
- They lost their capacity to live forever.
- After a limited lifespan their bodies would die.
- They would have to forage for food.
- They would have to seek for shelter.
- They would procreate their kind.
- They would know about good and evil, but would not be able to make choices for good.
What is important to notice here is the fact that they still had the Spirit of God (or Tree of Life) within them. Reaching this Spirit of God was not possible however as it was guarded by an angel. Access to the Spirit of God would have enabled them the freedom to choose for good and thus gain eternal life.
In the Old Testament we are told that, “You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.
In His sermons Jesus alluded to the presence of God within we humans in being “in Him” and “one with Him.”
Jesus never asked the Father to help Him perform any miracle, He simply availed himself of the power within and performed the miracle!
If we do not avail ourselves of the power inside us and apply its counsel, then His Spirit within us is Dormant.
