God’s Line of Authority

But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

Seek God’s Heart

Anytime we come across issues which may lead to contention in the body, we should seek God’s heart in the circumstance to know what He wants for us. Our God is a God of order and would have us do things according to a prescribed manner. It is this way because He says so and also because He knows what is best for us at any given time.

The Accuser

The evil one is like a roaring lion and is known as the ‘accuser of the brethren’. It therefore stands to reason that God needs us to obey His word as laid out because then the evil one cannot accuse us before God if we are in obedience. It is God’s desire to bless us but He will not be able to if we are found to be operating outside His Government. If God blesses us and we are not living according to His ways, then He would be obliged to bless the devil as well.

Accept or Reject

When we hear God’s word we would do well not to reject it outright but rather take time to seek Him and allow Him to reveal the particular point to us. Just because we may not agree with a topic does not mean it is wrong!

God’s Line of Authority

God has laid out this line of authority because in His wisdom He knows this to be the perfect. The scripture shows the order of authority He requires from us:

  1. God (Triune Godhead – God, Jesus and Holy Spirit)
  2. Jesus (The Son)
  3. Man
  4. Woman
  5. Children

In the Beginning

It is interesting to see in Genesis God said…”Let US create man in OUR image and in OUR likeness”. He was referring to The Father (God), the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. The Triune Godhead was present before the foundation of time and God knew that each one would have a specific part to play in His plan of salvation for us. God – The Father, the great architect of salvation

Jesus – the Son would die for our sin and death of our sinful nature

Holy Spirit – left on earth after Jesus ascended into Heaven to guide and teach us

Working together

Despite God’s line of authority, the triune Godhead has always worked together as one. Never is it said that any one of the members is greater than the other nor are they seen to be exercising their authority over each other. They work together as one. Therefore God’s heart in His line of authority would be for us to work together not having to enforce our authority over one another. We are ALL called to be servants in our attitude towards one another.

National Government

Romans says that we need to submit to the authority of our national government. The scripture says that God has established ALL authority.  If we do not obey our national government we rebel against God and bring judgement on ourselves. Even though we may not have personally voted our national government into power we still need to obey their laws. Possibly the only exception is if the government asks us to do something contrary to the word of God. God will hold those in authority accountable for the state of the nation (in terms of His government).

Marriage/Family

1 Peter 3:1-6 and Eph 5:22; Eph 6:4 show us that wives need to submit to their husbands. Whilst in the past opinions have brought about the idea that the wives’ submission to their husbands has made them seem as a lesser character, this is not the heart of God. Eve was formed out of Adam’s SIDE. She was to be a help MEET for Adam – not a leader and not a (worldly) servant. Husband and Wife are to work together – side by side – with equal input into their marriage and family lives. However God holds the man accountable for decisions made because of His line of authority. Not because God sees woman as an inferior being, but because His word requires it that way

Church

Timothy shows us that God appoints men as elders to administer the church. Once again, God exhorts the leaders to lead by example and by serving one another – working together to hear the heart of God. Not a group of men forcing their rules or opinions on the congregation.

We must not forget there are certain appointments to help grow the members of the body: apostle, evangelist, prophet, pastor and teacher.  God’s line of authority applies in the Church, so women should not aspire to be in a position where they assume authority over men. God’s heart applies – serving one another – not seeing women as being of lesser statute but working together. Once again, God will hold the men responsible and accountable for the work.

Business

Colossians 3:22–4:1 and I Peter 2:18 give us the pattern for business. Employers are to act with fairness as they work with their employees and ensure Godly principles are in place throughout the business. Employees are responsible to serve well, doing their work wholeheartedly as unto the Lord.

Blessings

As mentioned, we need to obey God’s line of authority in order that we can be blessed in our country, family life, fellowship and businesses. Even if we may not agree with some aspects – ask God to reveal His heart to you – don’t reject his word outright.  Proverbs shows us how we are blessed when we adhere to God’s government.
