A Timeless Tale – Chapter Eighteen

Living a Life in the Kingdom of God – Continued

Role of the Mind

Each one of us is a result of the cumulative thoughts of our mind, since conception in our mother’s womb. Right from our conception we have accumulated thoughts. Certain of our thoughts are conscious thoughts which are dealing with the here and now and other thoughts are filed away in our subconscious mind.

Conscious thoughts are active in our minds throughout our day-to- day living (this also includes thoughts that are active in our minds as we sleep). Subconscious thoughts are brought into our conscious realm by ‘triggers’. Triggers come in the form of certain experiences we have in our lives that are revealed through our senses; sight, sound, taste, smell etc.

You might be taking a walk and all of a sudden a large dog might start barking at you from a neighbour’s gate. Immediately a trigger in your subconscious mind will recall an incident when you were a child and were bitten by a dog. Fear grips you and to some extent you are relieved that there is a closed gate between the barking animal and yourself.

As you walk, you might smell the fragrance of a Jasmine bush in the early evening and this would trigger a memory of a particular place that you once lived, which brought back happy memories.

We need to understand that it is the thoughts of our minds that affect the way that we behave and the decisions that we make.

The scripture tells us to renew our minds:

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect”.

I mentioned in a previous chapter that God continues to pour out blessings upon us, even when we don’t accept them.

To help me explain this to you, I would like to quote you from Neale Walsch’s book, Conversations with God:

God speaking to Neale: “…now, the supreme irony here is that you all have placed so much importance on the Word of God and so little on experience.

In fact, you place so little on experience that when what you experience of God differs from what you heard of God, you automatically discard the experience and own the words, when it should be just the other way around.

Your experience and your feelings about a thing represent what you factually and intuitively know about a thing. Words can only symbolize what you know and can only confuse what you know”.

God is trying to tell us, “…. but let Me transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” (my translation of above scripture).

We have been brainwashed into believing that we need to “study the Word of God” (for Christians – the Bible, or the words of teachers and preachers) and are told that this is how we get to know God.

Reality says that it’s not what we know about, God, gained from whatever source, , but what we experience of God that allows us to receive health, wealth, peace and power in the Kingdom of God upon this earth.

It will now become very clear to us – how we think, determines how we live in this life.

We might view it like this: If God controls the thoughts of our minds, we will benefit from His blessings. If we take control of our thoughts, we will miss the opportunity of His blessings.

By way of example: we spoke in an earlier chapter of a voice that would guide us in our thinking and decision making:

Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left”.

To summarize then, God will use all our human faculties in order to communicate with us (for example: our thoughts, our dreams and our words, just to name a few). All we need is the desire to hear from Him, the commitment, time, patience and last but not least – faith to believe that our efforts WILL pay off.

Please share this with your friends – you can never tell whose life might change, eternally, by your obedience to this request.
