A franchise is a type of license that a party (franchisee) acquires to allow them to have access to a business’s (the franchiser) proprietary knowledge, processes and trademarks in order to allow the party to sell a product or provide a service under the business’s name.
The Kingdom of God is that area where God does things according to His ways. Jesus told us that the Kingdom of God is within us and therefore among us. It is made up of Godly principles of which, the more we obey, the more we will be blessed (Ps.1:1-6) and the more we will walk in His authority here on earth. The Kingdom of Heaven on the other hand, is that place we will spend eternity in once we leave this earth.
The good news for us is that we can enter His Kingdom here and now! Jesus explained this to us when he said we first need to SEE the kingdom of God before we can ENTER it. He said when we become ‘Born Again’ we will SEE the Kingdom and when we are ‘Born of Water and of the Spirit’ we will ENTER it. Once God has performed this process in our lives we enter the Kingdom of God and begin to daily walk in it.
We then begin to take part in His Kingdom by adhering to His principles. There are many of these principles and we will do well to spend time searching the scriptures to see them and to ask the Lord to help us walk in them. Jesus speaks a lot about His Kingdom in Matt.5,6 and 7 where he explains that not only do we physically sin, but as we think sinful thoughts we have sinned. It is very difficult (in fact impossible) to try and adhere to God’s principles in our own strength. We must call on the Lord, through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, to help us walk daily in His ways.
The Lord uses His principles to mould and shape us on a daily basis. In difficult times we need to remember the promise in Rom.8:28 which tells us that ALL things happen for the good of those who love the Lord. We can’t always understand why things are happening to us in a certain way, but we need to trust that the Lord is busy with something. Often He will show us, after the fact, that if we had continued on our path it would have led to destruction.
We see in Matt.6:19 Jesus, through Peter, gave us the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. He told us that what we bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven. The words ‘binding’ and ‘loosing’ in this context mean ‘forbidding’ and ‘permitting’. Therefore what we permit here on earth has been permitted in Heaven and what we forbid here on earth has been forbidden in Heaven.
Let’s look at a practical example of ‘forbidding’ something on earth. If we are stopped for exceeding the speed limit and the traffic officer tries to solicit a bribe from us we need to refuse that action. Why? Because corruption is sin. When we refuse to be a partaker of the bribe process we are forbidding it to take place and therefore blocking a plan of the Evil one. That process has already been bound in Heaven because it is unlawful in the Kingdom of God.
A simple practical example of ‘permitting’ something here on earth would be sharing the Gospel with others. When we do this we are ‘permitting’ something which has already been permitted in Heaven. (a Godly principle).
By living our daily lives permitting Godly principles and forbidding darkness (as in our examples), we are like ‘agents’ of the Kingdom of God here on earth.
A franchisee has the authority to do things for and on behalf of the franchiser. So on earth, we represent our Father through the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. The Holy Spirit, among other things, will reveal to us the truth that our old sinful nature died with Jesus on the cross and therefore we don’t need to do things the way we did them in the past or be a slave to our old sinful nature.
In our ‘old nature’ we do not have the means or the strength to adhere to God’s principles but as we seek HIM, we will overcome trials on a daily basis. As we do so, we gain HIS blessing and walk in HIS authority.
All franchisee’s need to undergo a period of training before they are fully fledged franchisees – it’s no different for us as we allow the Holy Spirit to disciple us. We need to remember that the sanctification part of our Salvation is being worked out on a day to day basis and it will take time for us to become more Christ like each day.
If we feel we have let God down in some way – let’s get up, dust ourselves off, and continue on our walk. Don’t be demoralised – that’s exactly what the enemy wants!
